Holy Cross Anglican Church Women
Holy Cross Parish branch of the Anglican Church Women (ACW) was established in March 1969 with the encouragement and guidance of Mrs. Gertrude Burnside the then President of the Diocesan ACW Council. From its formation with 12 ladies of the Parish, the majority of whom are still members, the Holy Cross branch has grown over these 36 years to a present membership of 86. Guided by the Holy Spirit, successive presidents, beginning with the late Mrs. Ruby Pestaina, have led the ACW towards the fulfillment of its three-fold mission envisioned by Bishop Bernard Markham, the founding patron. This mission is to facilitate spiritual growth, financial contribution and social outreach among the women of the Parish.
In keeping with this mission, the ACW seeks to provide opportunities for women to serve God in His Church through WORSHIP, STUDY, FELLOWSHIP, SERVICE and GIVING. Four working committees, spiritual, sick, social and fundraising Ė facilitate the achievement of this objective. The organization meets on the first Thursday of each month and shares in corporate communion on the second Sunday of the month. Membership is open to all women 18 years and older who are confirmed Anglican members and regular communicants.
The ACW makes a significant contribution to the life of the Church. Its members are active in the various ministries and committees and outreach programmes. Two major annual fundraisers enable the group to assist with financial contributions to the work of the Parish and Diocese. Above all, the members are committed to the promotion of spiritual growth with the Church through personal prayer, and study of Godís word, retreats, workshop, missions and renewal programmes. All is done wit the ultimate aim of furthering Godís will and building up His Kingdom in our Parish and Diocese.
